This is a poem from Brave New Voices, a national spoken word competition for high school students. It’s called “Hir” and it made me cry. As you can infer from the title, it’s about being trans*. You should watch it. I know you’re likely going to scroll past it, but this is something that’s really worth watching.

Allies to the trans community are supportive of ALL trans people, not just trans adults. Saying your nephew went through a phase where he thought he was a girl for a little while doesn’t mean it’s a phase for trans kids. It’s true that not all trans adults have known from a very young age, but that doesn’t invalidate the fact that some of us have known since we were little kids.
